Shadow Era Meltdown 131: Greasypig (Darkclaw) vs. KrypticChronic (Lance) - Bot or Stoned?!
Please Subscribe! New live commentary Meltdown matches every Monday! Originally Played: December 8, 2015 Version: 2.92 Played: 4 CoTC I'm thoroughly confused by what seem to be incompetent players playing Meltdown. Meltdown is a slightly more intermediate mode than normal SE, so I assume that anyone playing it would have SOME idea of how SE strategy works, and yet they seem to just do boneheadedly useless moves that even someone who isn't used to the eccentricities of Meltdown should know better than to fall into. I've taken to asking some of these people whether or not they're real, and I guess they are, but I swear man they really seem like bad AI to me.

Gwenneth is the only Weapon-based hero in Meltdown that I would play without the safety net of What Big Teeth.

Please Subscribe! New live commentary Meltdown matches every Monday! Originally Played: December 6, 2015 Version: 2.92 Played: 2 DP, 2 SF To my own peril I'm not a huge user of Ythan even though he can be a devastating hero... I'm just not a huge fan of ally-support heroes like Ythan, Tala, or Elementalis. Again, to my own peril. But this was as perfect of a matchup as one could hope for, since Ythan just renders Moonstalker's stealth useless. And of course there was my usual stable of Antimatter/Infinity Core to help out (though Infinity Core wasn't used til the end).

I tried to be nice and be equitable, but seriously, how did the other player not have timed out and given me the win after that long? Thank god I didn't quit.

Please Subscribe! New live commentary Meltdown matches every Monday! Originally Played: October 6, 2015 Version: 2.92 Played: 2 DP, 2 SF Aramia isn't the ideal hero against ally-based heroes like Elementalis, so luckily we didn't have a particularly hard opponent here and we lucked out on some anti-ally cards. I'm glad to take the win, especially since I recorded this after FOUR false-start recordings on games that got disconnected or ended early, which was super frustrating.

Originally Played: August 22, 2015 Version: 2.9131 Played: 1 CotC, 2 DP, 1 SF Finally a more meaty game, especially after the past few weeks which have either been quick wins or early quits from our opponents. Skervox continues to be a champ for Meltdown for ally control, and for a longer game. My opponent made a weird move in the middle of the game, but then again, I also accidentally sacrificed Braxnorian Soldier, so I’d say that puts us back into equal footing. Good game!

I don't actually know whether or not I would've actually won this game (if I worked it out I could probably deduce it), but my opponent (SPOILER ALERT) quit before we could even get there. It was certainly a close game throughout, lots of allies getting thrown around at the end.

I thought it made an Ally immune to negative attachments. Turns out that only works AFTER Exaltation is attached. It doesn't negate any negative attachments already on the ally. If I'd attached Exaltation to Morbid Acolyte, I would've won. Nuts.

Please Subscribe! This game is actually the second time I've won with Praxix, and my opponent quits prematurely*, but the first time I played the game the opponent quit even sooner. So I'll let this one stand for now! *Other than losing my Temporal Disturbance and Infinity Core, this game went about as well as I could hope for for a Praxix game. Skervox almost went out of his way to get themselves milled. I wish they'd played all the way to the end cause I think they could've had a chance to win. I don't think I've nearly learned all I can with playing Praxix.

I'd won other games before but I didn't get to putting them up online until now. Bout damn time! According to the final stats the game was pretty lopsided on my end but I think my opponent hung in there pretty well, actually; it was a pretty tense ally-ally showdown.

Anyway, Scrying Eye is great against weapon-based heroes because you can see if/when they're about to draw a weapon card, and you can shuffle it out before they do. The funny thing is, in this instance, I never saw Amber about to draw a What Big Teeth, which is of course the point of choosing Amber in a Meltdown game.

Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: March 25, 2015 Version: 2.89 WEDNESDAY WIN After playing four games against this one player who always only used a weapons-based hero (usually Gwenneth), we were 2-for-2, which is pretty impressive for me. But after that, I decided to take a chance and play Ter Adun, knowing full well that I had no other offense if I ended up matching with any other player. I had no Lone Wolf, no Infinity Core, barely any allies. All I had were cards to destroy items. What happened was one of the most glorious games I've ever played. I can't imagine a more tech-ed out victory against Amber Rain. I literally took almost every offensive strategy they had and flipped it around on them (thanks to Morphic Armor and Procured and Restored).

The good news I finally figured out how to cut and splice clips directly from Quicktime, which was good because there was about 10 minutes of waiting to get matched with a player. Speaking of waiting, is this the quickest game we've ever done a live commentary on? That's good since I'm generally vulnerable to weapon-based heroes.

I don't know why Gwenneth switched to Ghostmaker instead of using her Lily Rosecult sooner to bring back Soul Seeker; with her Speedstrike she could've slowly eroded my health without ever losing her bow. Still, when you don't have any other weapon destroyers, Snow Sapphire (the freezing armor) is one of your best defenses against a weapon-wielding hero.

New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: February 15, 2015 Version: 2.89 WEDNESDAY WIN Listen, I clearly love a good mill game, so I have respect for others who do the same in Meltdown. That said, Millstalker in Meltdown is an accident waiting to happen; you don't have an abundance of Lone Wolf and stall/control cards at your disposal. Meanwhile you also don't have any offensive cards. What won me this game was Infinity Core (of course) and Scrying Eye, with which I saw that he had a Lone Wolf (that's what I kept shuffling his deck for) and a What Big Teeth. Eventually I couldn't stop him from drawing those cards, but by then it was really too late. I've played a lot of Millstalkers in Meltdown recently and I've lost to few of them. p.s. - just for the sheer curiosity I had for a guy who played this FORTY FIVE TURN GAME, I dragged the ending out a little, to see if he'd keep fighting.

Just 3 CotC and 1 DP. Fun game against Banebow, at one point losing 23-5. Gotta love those comeback games!

Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: February 10, 2015 Version: 2.89 FRIDAY FAIL Here's another painful loss; some end-game miscalculations plus not understanding some of the new cards (Tome of Blessings is a bitch if you're carrying "What Big Teeth"). I should've saved my shadow ability at around 10:30 for one more turn, for example.

Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: February 9, 2015 Version: 2.89 WEDNESDAY WIN Pretty quick game here, but the main lesson is: Braxnorian Soldier is a perfect counter against Lance, since he prevents opposing allies from having HASTE.

Shadow Era Meltdown 56: Eladwen Frostmire vs. Gravebone - Commentary Monday!
Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: February 8, 2015 Version: 2.89 COMMENTARY MONDAY! This is our first stream using the new version 2.89, AND the first one where I show my deck construction (by request). And if all goes well this is also the first one that'll actually be in real 720p HD. Lots of firsts! Not sure I'll be doing deck construction on the other videos (I don't have too much time to edit these and if there's a large gap between construction and matchup I may ditch the construction part), but you never know! Anyway, played 1 SF, 2 COTC, and 1 DP, and it turned out well! As usual, card draw was the reason for the win here. What are your favorite SF cards? I'm liking that Coercion a lot... reminds me of the original "Mind Control."

Shadow Era Meltdown 29: Lance Shadowstalker vs. Boris Skullcrusher - Commentary Monday!
Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: February 4, 2015 Version: 2.88 FRIDAY FAIL I should've won this game. I made some critical errors and misjudgements towards the end when he summoned all his allies. If I'd done it correctly I probably could've survived long enough for my Descendant to kill all his allies. A frustrating loss that might've been preventable.

Shadow Era Meltdown 54: Majiya vs. Banebow - HUGE Comeback win
Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: February 2, 2014 Version: 2.88 WEDNESDAY WIN HUGE comeback win here, at one point I believe I was down to 3 HP while they had full health at 29, and I only had 3 cards left. Of course, play slow and steady and using Infinity Core, and you could potentially last forever. This is one of my favorite games of all time. 28 turns, super tense the entire way, and textbook milling. I wish I'd done it live!

New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: January 30, 2015 Version: 2.88 COMMENTARY MONDAY Fun Ally-cycling here, again nice patient pacing helped by their putting down Bazaar so we always have extra cards. 2.89 is slowly being pushed out to all platforms; as soon as it hits iOS (which can still take a while), I'll start playing on that.

Shadow Era Meltdown 52: Banebow vs. Majiya - Friday Fail!
Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: January 29, 2015 Version: 2.88 FRIDAY FAIL Yes, this is another Shattered Fates loss. That said, the loss is more attributed to their having an Infinity Core, which is one of my favorite cards in the game, which is from Dark Prophecies. If I had been able to destroy that card, I probably would've won.
Shadow Era Meltdown 51: Victor Heartstriker vs. Banebow - Wednesday Win!
Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: January 19, 2015 Version: 2.88 WEDNESDAY WIN Another straightforward Lone-Wolf milling here. Just play it super slow and conservative, and remember to not draw too much with Ill Gotten Gains, which can drain your deck very quickly. Having the ability to see your opponent's hand proves invaluable in not wasting cards.

In celebration of this feat, I am doing my first livecast of a meltdown game using a Shattered Fates deck (3 COTC and 1 SF). Unfortunately, my newb skills show through and uh, well, there's room for improvement.

Shadow Era Meltdown 49: Gravebone vs. Eladwen Frostmire - Friday Fail!
Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: January 19, 2015 Version: 2.88 FRIDAY FAIL Secret to Gravebone is to have a good early attack; you'll push the opponent on the defensive immediately, and then once they've spent their resources killing your early allies you revive them and start swarming. Strategy doesn't work when you don't have a lot of early allies.
Shadow Era Meltdown 48: Banebow vs. Darkclaw - Wednesday Win!
Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: January 16, 2015 Version: 2.88 WEDNESDAY WIN For the life of me I can't understand why he decided to destroy my armor instead of my What Big Teeth. I guess he assumed that since he'd eventually draw his own What Big Teeth, he'd have enough saved SE to be able to ambush me, so he'd rather just get rid of my armor to quicken my death, and also to prevent damage to himself. Oh well! :)

Shadow Era Meltdown 47: Banebow vs. Majiya - Commentary Monday!
Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: January 17, 2015 Version: 2.88 COMMENTARY MONDAY Nice solid win again. Majiya made the common mistake of using her Shadow Ability against an ally with Sacred Fire Walker, which makes the ally immune to Fire Damage. It's a mistake I'd made many times in the past.

Shadow Era Meltdown 46: Majiya vs. Eladwen Frostmire - Friday Fail!
Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: January 14, 2014 Version: 2.88 FRIDAY FAIL This was another bitter loss because I really had most things going for me, mainly Infinity Core and Lone Wolf. The funny thing is I sacrificed as second Lone Wolf not long before Eladwen cleared all the attachments, so if I hadn't done that I might've survived a few more turns. Still, he just had a really good roll of allies going.

Shadow Era Meltdown 45:Banebow vs. Eladwen Frostmire - Wednesday Win!
Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: January 8, 2015 Version: 2.88 WEDNESDAY WIN This might look like a thorough beatdown but I actually played thoughtfully conservatively throughout. Eladwen's ability is better at controlling my allies and with her Ascendant it wouldn't be hard for her to mount an ally army that I wouldn't be able to stop, so I played slow and steady making sure her allies were dispatched before they could be a threat.

Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: January 4, 2014 Version: 2.88 COMMENTARY MONDAY Another live game! No Lone Wolf, no Tome of Knowledge, no Infinity Core. Just normal grinding (plus What Big Teeth).

Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: January 3, 2015 Version: 2.88 FRIDAY FAIL With a good collection of allies, Gravebone can easily overwhelm Banebow, who can't cause enough damage quickly enough to dispatch of high-HP allies. I hung on as much as I could, but couldn't get enough of an upper hand.
Shadow Era Meltdown 42: Zaladar vs. Gravebone- Wednesday Win!
Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: January 1, 2015 Version: 2.88 WEDNESDAY WIN I've usually been hesitant to use Blood Frenzy because stacked with bleeding and ablaze, I could die very quickly. But given any other lack of card drawing abilities, sometimes you have no choice. With a rush hero like Zaladar and a more defensive hero like Gravebone, you can win quickly before you run out of cards.

Please Subscribe! New Meltdown matches every Monday (Commentary Monday), Wednesday (Wednesday Win), and Friday (Friday Fail) Originally Played: December 30, 2014 Version: 2.88 FRIDAY FAIL An opponent with a deck size in the low 30's is pretty confident in their card choices, and with Zaladar they have a pretty good rush deck. I might've been able to outlast them with my slow game but the combination of POISON and ABLAZE just kept me from recovering in time.
